Evaluate, implement and scale AI for better healthcare outcomes
The AI in Healthcare programme from Imperial Executive Education empowers healthcare professionals, leaders and innovators with the critical knowledge and tools to evaluate, adopt and scale artificial intelligence (AI) in real-world clinical environments. Amidst the growing demand for AI-driven healthcare solutions, the programme addresses the critical need for senior healthcare leaders like you to balance innovation and regulation, leading scalable, real-world AI adoption.
Led by Brendan Delaney, Chair in Medical Informatics and Decision-Making at Imperial College London, this six-week programme offers an understanding of AI including Agentic AI and an in-depth understanding of the regulatory frameworks for effectively evaluating and implementing AI tools. You will also gain a comprehensive AI skill set and the confidence to implement cutting-edge AI technologies in healthcare environments. Upon successful completion of the programme, you will earn the associate alumni status.
By the end of the AI in Healthcare programme, you will be able to:
Analyse the opportunities, risks and constraints of applying AI across healthcare settings, particularly in diagnostics, clinical decision-making and workflow optimisation.
Differentiate among AI model types and their applications within healthcare contexts.
Design leadership strategies for driving AI transformation and improving patient outcomes.
Evaluate key regulatory and cybersecurity considerations governing AI as a medical device across UK, EU and US jurisdictions.
Apply AI principles and the Learning Health System (LHS) framework to real-world use cases.
Assess the strategic and regulatory implications of AI adoption.
Through a comprehensive curriculum, the programme integrates AI technology, policy, leadership and regulation, enabling you to effectively evaluate various health care AI tools and strategies. It provides a holistic understanding of how AI can enhance care delivery safely, ethically and sustainably.
This module explores how AI can enhance healthcare delivery, efficiency and patient experience. You will gain an understanding of deep learning model training and output generation and assess the impact of data quality on AI model bias. The module culminates in defining a healthcare challenge where AI can add value.
Deploying advanced, agent-based AI models in healthcare requires careful evaluation of risks and opportunities. This module will guide you through analysing the organisational readiness, safeguards and leadership responsibilities necessary for their safe and effective implementation. You will develop a leadership plan outlining the expertise, structures and strategies essential for successfully deploying agentic AI systems in health care settings.
This module will teach you to classify AI-enabled tools as medical devices based on risk and understand key differences in UK, EU and US regulations. You will learn to determine necessary oversight and standards for safe, resilient AI medical devices while specifying their purpose, risks and oversight needs.
The principles of LHS can guide healthcare leaders in safely and effectively adopting AI. By evaluating how LHS enables regulation-ready AI deployment and using the NASSS framework to assess adoption factors, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of integrating AI solutions into an LHS infrastructure.
To successfully adopt AI in EU and UK healthcare contexts, it is crucial to evaluate the alignment between AI product marketing claims and organisational readiness. This module equips you to analyse stakeholder perspectives and conditions while assessing an organisation's preparedness to review and approve AI systems for clinical and data privacy risks. Consequently, you will learn to develop effective strategies for AI implementation.
This module applies the SHIFT framework to evaluate ethical implications of AI use, explores how organisational practices and leadership responsibilities support responsible AI adoption in healthcare in line with ISO 42001 and reflects on governance and leadership roles in shaping ethical oversight and organisational culture. It also synthesises organisational, regulatory and technical considerations for AI adoption or product development in healthcare.

Each module of the AI in Healthcare programme includes various application-based activities and scenario-based learning. These help you develop hands-on experience in applying AI tools and strategies to healthcare scenarios, enhancing care quality and efficiency.
Playbook assignments on AI adoption in healthcare: Explore the practical implications of your module learnings through immersive playbook assignments in each module. These assignments help you reflect beyond theoretical knowledge, developing your distinct approach and decision-making skills on AI adoption in healthcare.
Board report for responsible AI: Develop a board-level report that synthesises organisational, regulatory, ethical and technical considerations for AI adoption or a product development case in healthcare.
Self-study reflection activities, knowledge checks and discussions for real-world AI adoption: Drive leadership decisions pertaining to AI in healthcare by engaging in immersive self-study activities in each module – flexibly and independently. Work on self-reflection activities to analyse specific applications of AI you can implement in your organisation, and gain insights into navigating particular healthcare scenarios through self-study discussions.
